Recommended Users Spotlight: Andrea Kuszewski

+Andrea Kuszewski (scientist)

I almost don't know where to start...

almost.

I call Andrea a scientist because that's what she is... and if I tried to fit all of the other things she is into that semi-parenthetical aside, it would get a little ridiculous.

Andrea, for lack of a better term, is a Renaissance woman. If you go to her links on her about page - and you start to go through all of the things she does - you sort of wonder how she has time to have a pretty awesome publicly curated G+ profile. On Andrea's many bios - you'll see that she is a part of many organizations that have names which probably on make sense to those in the higher-sphere of various sciences that focus on the activities of the brain. This might be something you expect from a scientist - that is; being active in their field. However, you'll also notice that Andrea has a couple of other thematic threads that weave in and out of her various digital/public outlets. Those threads are a passion for art and maybe even more importantly the desire to help those in need with her (many) talents. She shares these passions and related experiences --

In one of her comments she wrote:

The MIT Museum was one of my favorite places in Boston to go. One of my young clients used to beg me to take him there (10-year-old w/ Aspergers), so every so often, as a treat, we'd take the train to MIT and hang out at the campus bookstore and go to the museum. He told me he wanted to go to school at MIT and was determined to get there...I'd never been more proud of a little kid before. :) #nerdintraining

On G+, Andrea's stream is filled with quirky links to various artistic endeavors (how about an article about classic album covers made from legos) to scientific exploratory pieces (a video explaining how a socio-path sees the world of relationships).

Maybe even more importantly is her interactions with other posts... and by being an influential part of other communities as well as her own. Andrea's responses and comments are often mini-posts deserving of their own space on Andrea's stream.

Look at all of this cool stuff! I'm not even sure what some of it means!

Since Andrea does some stuff that I'm pretty sure I couldn't begin to comprehend. I suggest you ask her if you have any questions about... neurons... and mm... synapse stuff... brains...

One of the nice things about the articles Andrea posts is that you can tell they are meant for those who aren't necessarily attuned to the scientific lingo... you might be outside of the scientific community... and if you're not sure what's going on - ask! She's quick to respond.

I told Andrea I was sponsoring her this week and asked if she wanted to promote anything. Here is what she is up to right now:

Just recently, myself and a group of 5 scientists and science communicators have formed a sci-comm rapid response/crisis team of sorts, called SCOPE (Science Communications Outreach Programs & Education). We are in the middle-end of our first project, a video having to do with why evolution should be taught in schools, and what it means to scientists on a personal level. The video will be presented in NYC at the same time we officially announce our collaborative sci-comm organization, probably late November.

There ya have it! Andrea does post frequently, so make sure you do what you need to do to control that when she hits your streams - I have a feeling you won't want to shut her content off though.
